The exhibit of Joel Brodsky photographs of Jim Morrison
and The Doors opened yesterday at Snap Galleries of Birmingham, England.  The exhibit runs from April 21 to July 3rd.  To see photos of the exhibit, go to:  http://web.mac.com/guywhite/iWeb/Site/Doors%20installation%20shots.html   For more information, go to:  http://www.snapgalleries.com/exhibitionsfuture.html

An episode of "Hawaii Five-O" which originally aired on February 12, 1969 showed an issue of the January 1968 Datebook magazine with Jim Morrison on the cover.  In the episode titled "Along Came Joey", the magazine title was altered to read Peace, and can be seen numerous times during the first twenty minutes of the show.  The fan who spotted this sent along some screen shots of the magazine as it appears in the show.  go here   (thanks, Jeff)

April 19, 2007     Jim #40 in Q Mag list <> Doors LP covers in Mojo <> Doors on Italian mag cover <> Jac Holzman interview
Jim Morrison ranked as #40 on a list
compiled by Q Magazine, April issue (cover:  100 Greatest Singers):  "Although Jim Morrison's voice hinted at a more feral, more worldly Elvis Presley, nobody had previously sounded like this son of a US Navy Admiral.  Indeed, were Morrison's every last recorded utterance not laden with the deep, mellifluous threat and promise of sex, he'd have been quite the crooner.  As it was, even when his addled body was failing as a result of rampant drug and alcohol abuse, Morrison's voice still dripped with fornication.  If he'd survived the flabby years, there may have been no need for Nick Cave."  Others who outranked Jim included #28 Bowie,  #23 Roy Orbison,  #18 Dylan,  #14 Johnny Cash,  #10 Jeff Buckley,  #9 Mick Jagger,  #3 Frank Sinatra, and  #1 Elvis Presley.  (thanks, Tim)

Mojo Magazine has a Collector's Edition issue out on The Greatest Album Covers of All Time.  The cover of 'Strange Days' got a full page in the 'Psychedelia' section.  Further in the issue, 'Morrison Hotel' got two full pages, with outtakes from the photo session.

The Doors grace the April 2007 cover of a foreign language magazine called Rock Star.  I think this is Italian ... if anyone knows for certain, please let me know.  see magazine cover   (thanks, Gilles)

Elektra Records founder Jac Holzman was interviewed on CNN.com about the new box set, "Forever Changing: The Golden Age of Elektra Records, 1963-1973".  read story

April 12, 2007     pardon 'movement' for Jim <> shirt for Dodgers & Doors fans
The movement to reverse Jim Morrison's conviction in Miami has been picking up steam with world-wide media coverage.  If you want more information about this or would like to sign the petition, go to:  http://www.doors.com/miami/   (thanks, Kerry and Dave)

If you are a Doors fan AND an L.A. Dodgers fan, it looks like you can show your love for both with a Dodgers t-shirt printed in The Doors logo lettering style.  Apparently there are others available too, such as Yankees in AC/DC logo style, Chicago Cubs in the Kiss logo style, etc.  Check it out at:  http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/sm-los-angeles-dodgers-uncommon-epics-world-tour-t-shirt-by--pi-2583359.html   (thanks, Chris)

Several Doors fans have been lobbying for several years for a posthumous pardon for the charges against Jim Morrison stemming from the March 1, 1969 Miami concert.  This has picked up steam again recently and has been getting media coverage.  read it  (thanks, Dave)

doing press in support of the 40th anniversary and the new releases.  He was interviewed on a current affairs TV show there on the ABC called 'The 7.30 Report.'  Here is a link to the transcript:  http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/content/2007/s1888008.htm    (thanks, Adam)

April 2, 2007     Boston Arena release date <> Walk of Fame story <> vintage Robby interview
The highly anticipated 1970 Boston Arena shows
have a tentative release date through BMA on July 24, according to a post by The Doors manager Jeff Jampol a few days ago on the official message board.  The early show will be a single disc, and the late show 2 CDs.  Fans will be able to pre-order the shows (but not yet!).   To read the post and follow the posts to this thread, go here  (thanks, Simone)

Everyone knows that The Doors got their star on the Walk of Fame back on February 28th.  An interesting website has a nice piece about their star, and then links to even more info about it, such as what it's made of and other information about the stars in general.  That goes on to link to a page with photos of murals in Venice Beach, including the R. Cronk one of Jim there, and then a link to the artist.  Check it out at:  http://www.family-vacation-getaways-at-los-angeles-theme-parks.com/Hollywood-Walk-of-Fame.html  (thanks, David my son)

There is a real nice Robby Krieger print interview on a site called ClassicBands.com   The interview is undated, but by references mentioned it must be mid to late 1990s.  Check it out at:  http://www.classicbands.com/RobbyKriegerInterview.html   (thanks, Gilles)

April 1, 2007     Robby & Virginia Symphony <> Patti's poem for Jim <> Ray interview Down Under
Robby Krieger performing Roadhouse Blues with Berry Oakley, Jr.
on vocals is a YouTube video to check out.  I don't know the date of this performance, but Berry left the RKB by the late 90's.  What's unique is that it is just Robby and Berry in front of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra at the Chrysler Center (somewhere in Virginia, I guess?) with a conductor leading the large symphony behind them.  It's an unexpected pairing, and a good quality video.  Check it out at:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gP7mPz2OJIQ   (thanks, Gilles)

Patti Smith reciting a poem for Jim Morrison is another YouTube video worth a look.  Patti says the poem was created with her longtime collaborator Lenny Kaye, who accompanies her on guitar.  The film footage used is from HWY, shot by Paul Ferrara in Tahquitz Canyon in Palm Springs.  Paul says this footage was shot right after Jim took a swim and a nap.  Find it on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGbX5q3xrEw   (thanks, Gilles)

Ray Manzarek must be in Australia now!  An on-line interview with an Australian publication interviewed him and said he was there, touring to promote The Very Best of The Doors 40th Anniversary Album.  read interview
