July 30, 2003 Bright Midnight announcements <> Robby interview
Bright Midnight has made an announcement regarding expected upcoming releases: "The Doors are reevaluating the release schedule for Bright Midnight Records. As a result, everything has been stopped for now. Basically the band is rethinking Bright Midnight at this point. The "Vancouver" performance has been taken off of the schedule. The only forthcoming release this year will be "Boot Yer Butt," formerly titled Best of the Boots, a personal project of Robby Krieger, in the works for quite some time. Robby has personally selected the tracks for this after hours of listening to our concert performance archive and countless other bootlegs. It smokes!"
Bright Midnight also announced:
A very cool television commercial will be airing in August to promote the latest
Warner/Elektra release: The Doors Legacy The Absolute Best -- 34 remastered
tracks on 2 CDs, and the previously unreleased studio recording of "Celebration
of the Lizard" from the 1969 Soft Parade sessions.
Robby Krieger
gave Albuquerque's "Alibi"
a pre-show interview. If I read this correctly, it sounds like the
forthcoming new album may include live tracks from these tour dates, as
well as some of the new songs they have spoken of previously.

July 9, 2003 John Densmore on L.A. radio today
John Densmore was an in-studio guest on L.A. radio station KPFK 90.7 this morning on a world music program called Global Village. During the interview, he discussed The Actors' Gang a 100-seat theater where he first met his wife, Leslie Neale. He currently is on the Board of Directors there. This coming Sunday evening, and the second Sunday of every month, John will be co-hosting 'World Music Night" along with David Robbins, brother of actor Tim Robbins. Armenian percussionist musician Arto is this month's performer, and John "may sit in" with him. more about Arto
In the interview, John said his Tribal Jazz album will be out this fall on Hidden Beach Records, and that the band will play live to support the album. He described the music as a synthesis between a traditional jazz quartet (Coltrane) with African and Brazilian drumming.
John went on to say that he has found himself writing quite a bit. He has been involved in some legal battles, and he hopes to put a book out, about money. He said it might be called 'The Greed Gene.' John added that "money doesn't talk ... it swears."

Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame lists Five-Hundred Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll. These were published in a brochure I picked up while there last month. The cover says: "These songs were selected by a panel of music experts, including the curators of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, rock critics, journalists and historians. The songs were selected in the summer of 1995, prior to the opening of the Museum. The list is intended as a guide to songs that have influenced the evolution of rock and roll, from rock's earliest days to the mid-Nineties." There are two songs included by The Doors: "Light My Fire" and "The End."
