January 6, 2006      NY Times story

The New York Times ran a story on October 21, 2005 titled Rituals:  Keeping Up With The Rolling Stones.  It has absolutely nothing to do with The Doors.  Regardless, the story rings very true because so many of us have similar rituals for members of  The Doors and other favorites.  It's a fun read.  read it  (thanks, sister Bobbie)

January 5, 2006      another Clara Morrison obit <> Philly '70 review <> direct link to Bass Guitarists list <> sitar cover of Light My Fire <> another Clara Morrison obit <> Ray's homage to Al Kooper

A new obituary notice for Clara Morrison, mother to Jim, Anne and Andy, has been added.   read it

Bright Midnight's Philly '70 release got a nice on-line write-up today.   read it

Yesterday I reported on Phil Chen being named on a "Greatest Rock Bass Guitarists" list, but did not have a direct link to that list.   Thanks to a fan from Connecticut, I now have the direct link to that list:  http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/best_bassguitar.html    (thanks, James D.)

Ananda Skankar was a musician from Calcutta, India who released his first self-titled album in 1970.   This was released on CD in 2005 by Collectors Choice Music.  An excerpt from the CD insert reads:  "I have had a dream to try to combine Western and Indian music into a new form, a music which has no particular name but is melodious and touching, and which combines the most modern electronic devices with the old traditional instrument, the sitar."  He earns mention here because of his 3:29 cover of Light My Fire.  This is a pretty interesting listen.   Jumpin' Jack Flash also gets a sitar treatment here.   Bassist Jerry Scheff is among the credited musicians.  For more info, go to: http://www.ccmusic.com/item.cfm?itemid=CCM05452   (thanks, David my son & Steve)

Another obituary notice for Clara Morrison has been added.  This one was previously posted on the Lizard Lounge.  read it   (thanks, Mary-Beth)

January 4, 2006      Clara Morrison obituary notice <> Phil Chen on Greatest Bass Players list

Clara Morrison, mother to Jim, Anne and Andy, passed away last week on December 29th.   As I receive obit notices or tribute stories about her, I will share them on this site.   read it   (thanks, Jan)

Before Phil Chen began became bass player for The Doors of the 21st Century and Riders On The Storm, he already had a resume that included an amazing array of projects, bands and sessions.   An interview with Phil will be published on this site very soon.   In the meantime, Phil was listed at #40 on a listing of "100 Greatest Rock Bass Guitarists" on an interesting site called http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/    Since I cannot link directly to the specific page, I have copied the entire list for use.  go here (thanks, D)

By the way, on that same site at http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/  can also be found lots of other Doors names and references on various lists, i.e., Greatest Guitar Riffs, Greatest Guitar Riff Creators, Greatest Rock Drummers, Great Rock Keyboardists, Greatest Male Rock Vocalists ... you get the idea.  It's a fun site to explore.

January 2, 2006      Morrison Hotel lawsuits

The owners of the Morrison Hotel have been tried and convicted on 21 counts of criminal negligence by the L.A. City Attorney's office, according to a statement on the official Doors website home page.  That is great news and takes care of the criminal side.  However, there is still a civil case pending against the owners, which is completely separate from the criminal charges.  The civil case is still on schedule for trial in September 2006.  There is a mandatory settlement conference to be completed by April 2006.   I will get another update from the attorney at that time regarding the status of the mediation.  I'm sure the criminal conviction will be a big boost to the civil suit.   read about lawsuit
