September 30, 2003 Ray's "Love Her Madly" DVD is out in the U.S. <> Val Kilmer / Morrison comparison

Ray Manzarek's directorial debut, "Love Her Madly", was released a week ago on DVD. The MUZE summary says: "This aptly titled debut feature is a chilling thriller involving a murdered pupil on a college campus, and the entangled relationships that surround the unfortunate demise of the dead student. Manzarek himself makes an appearance, and includes several Doors classics on the soundtrack, whilst a cast of (as yet) unknowns let the mysteries unravel in this intriguing whodunit." Radio 3FM, a national pop radio channel in The Netherlands, broadcast the so-call 'Homo-100' recently, a listing of the 100 "hottest" gay songs. Will Young's version of Light My Fire, performed with sugarcoated vocals in a love ballad style, ranked in the 8th position. Others who made the list were more predictable, such as Abba, Communards, Bronski Beat, Village People, Pet Shop Boys, and Right Said Fred. (thanks, Fred)

ESPN The Magazine bestows a strange award: For those fans that are unfamiliar with what Veekies are, they are annual awards given by ESPN the Magazine for the most creative promotions in minor league baseball, named after one of the most creative promotional guru's in baseball, the late Bill Veeck. After winning the Promo of the Year in 2002, for Lifetime Season Tickets to any fan that gets a Daytona Cubs logo tattooed on them, the Cubs followed that up in 2003 with the Best Outreach to Fans of Crossing Over Award.

What the heck is that, you ask? It is for the Cubs Tribute to Jim Morrison Night Promotion. On the 32nd anniversary of the singer's untimely demise, the team held Doors trivia contests, played Doors tunes and gave away "Doors Collections" (which were actual old car doors).

"We took a bathtub, like the one Morrison was found in, and filled it with 500 pounds of ice," says GM Buck Rogers. "Whoever sat in it the longest got a prize pack. This high school kid stuck it out the whole time. It was amazing."

September 13, 2003 3-DVD set is re-scheduled <> new spoken word CD from Ozit

The 3-DVD set from Eagle Vision containing The Soundstage Performances, Feast Of Friends, and No One Here Gets Out Alive, was scheduled to be released on September 23 according to the September issue of ICE Magazine. The new October issue now indicates that this will be re-scheduled.

ICE Magazine, October 2003 issue (cover: Iggy Pop) has a colored ad on page 31 for a new spoken word CD from Ozit-Morpheus Records: "Ultimate Rock Spoken Moments: Jim Morrison of The Doors - Stoned But Articulate II" A Collection Of Words Spoken By Jim Morrison" The ad says: "1968 interview with the legendary lead vocalist of The Doors. The Doors of the 21st Century are listed as playing a date at Verizon Wireless in Houston, Texas on Sunday, October 26th. Jim, Pam, and Michael McClure in a previously unreleased photo is featured on www.mcclure-manzarek.com In addition, the track "For Jim Morrison" from the Manzarek-McClure CD entitled "There's A Word" can be downloaded, or the CD purchased on-line.

The Ray Manzarek-directed film "Love Her Madly" is set for U.S. release on DVD on October 21. This has been available in Europe for many months. check it out (thanks, David my son)

September 9, 2003 Doors box set re-issued today <> band will rest early 2004 <> Warren Zevon referenced Jim

The Complete Studio Recordings (Box set) was released today by Elektra. This is the same as the "brick" that was previously released. The 7th disc, "Essential Rarities" includes the unreleased bonus track, 'Woman Is A Devil.' This VH-1 link will take you to the box set details. I found nothing on the Elektra site or the official Doors site about today's release.

According to the Webmaster at http://robbykrieger.com/doors/ : "The band will probably take a few months off, the beginning of 2004. But look for them to hit the road in the spring"

Warren Zevon referenced Jim Morrison during his final television appearance last October 30 on the David Letterman show. As he discussed his terminal lung cancer diagnosis with Letterman, Warren said, "I lived like Jim Morrison, and then lived another 30 years." R.I.P. Warren

Jeff Buckley referenced Jim Morrison and "The End" on the recently released "Live at Sin-e, Legacy Edition". Track 6 of Disc 1 is entitled "Reverb, The Doors" and has Jeff asking for the sound guy and some reverb. He asks if there is a 'vibe dial -- like, Jim Morrison-like reverb' -- and begins playing the opening chords of "The End." He substitutes "This is Sin-e... " in place of "This is the end..."

Robby appeared on TV's "Married With Children" back in 1992. The episode is entitled 'Rock Of Ages' and includes other 60's rockers Spencer Davis, John Sebastian, Richie Havens, Peter Noone, and Mark Lindsay. The storyline is that Al Bundy won a contest to sell the most shoes to win a trip to Hawaii. During the last ten minutes of the show, The Bundy clan encounter Robby and the others in an airport lounge. Robby has both a speaking part and a singing part!!!! This show is being re-run on L.A.'s Channel 11 on Sunday, September 14 at 4:00 p.m. Check local listings. A MUST-SEE for Robby fans.
