January 27, 2005 Honolulu show in March <> Jeff Jampol statement <> new Doors anthology coming <> Paul Oakenfold remix

The Doors of the 21st Century will play March 4 at Pipeline Cafe in Honolulu, Hawaii according to today's Honolulu Star-Bulletin. The show is 18-and-older, and there are general admission tickets plus a limited number of V.I.P. tickets. Doors manager Jeff Jampol posted a lengthy statement on the Lizard Lounge message board earlier this week. There is alot of information contained ... so rather than try to summarize or interpret it, read the entire statement here (thanks, Fred)

New York publishers started bidding on Friday (January 21) for a new Doors anthology tentatively called "Break on Thru," which promises to be, in effect, the band's autobiography. The book would take the form of a massive oral-history tome, with its contents derived mostly from recorded conversations with drummer John Densmore, keyboardist Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robbie Krieger, and augmented by excerpts from interviews with late frontman Jim Morrison and comments from the group's closest associates. It would also include rare and exclusive photos, letters and memorabilia, as well as a CD/DVD featuring exclusive footage. January 9, 2005 Jim named a Mojo Mag "icon" <> Reza CD with John for sale

Jim Morrison is listed at #51 in the Mojo Magazine Special Edition, "Icons: The Greatest Music Stars Of All Time!" Page 54 contains a photo from Winterland in San Francisco, 1968, with a insert quoting Val Kilmer: 'He was not from here -- he was just visiting the planet." The Mojo Magazine blurb: "Since his demise in 1971, few, if any, have matched the late Doors frontman in the tortured, poetic rock star / poster-boy stakes. That his image can still adorn T-shirts and student halls of residences over 30 years on is proof of his immortality." Interested in who else ranks where? go here

January 8, 2005 happy birthday to Robby <> photo of Danny and Henry Diltz

Robby Krieger turns 59 years young today. Without Robby's indelible contribution 37 years ago of that first songwriting effort, would The Doors ever have attained the level of success, acclaim and recognition that 'Light My Fire' earned them??? And then, Robby went on to write so many other successful hit songs! Thank you for the great music. We look forward to another year of great concerts and new songs. What a strange occurrence that January 8th is the birthday of several other of my idols, past and current: David Bowie, Elvis Presley, and Soupy Sales. Happy Birthday, one and all!

January 7, 2005 L.A. Times obit on Danny Sugerman <> Jim Morrison's estate on VH-1

Danny Sugerman received a nice obituary write-up in today's L.A. Times. I added it to the page of other media stories and links. read it

Jim Morrison's estate is one of several profiled in an upcoming VH-1 program entitled Fortune Files 2. According to the summary on the VH-1 website, the ultimate Jim Morrison collectible is his hand-written journals, which are valued at between $500,000 - $700,000. Other celebrity estates profiled include Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, and JFK. The show debuts January 11 with three showings, and again on January 14. These are listed in calendar above.

January 6, 2005 Danny Sugerman, R.I.P. <> tribute on official site

Danny Sugerman died in Los Angeles yesterday at the age of 50 after a long battle with cancer. Danny started as an office assistant in The Doors office in the 60s when he was in his teens, and eventually became the band's manager. He authored or co-authored several Doors biographies, most notably the best-seller "No One Here Gets Out Alive" which is credited with helping to re-kindle interest in the band in the late 70's. His contributions to the legacy of The Doors will never be forgotten. He is survived by a brother and sister, and his wife, Fawn Hall Sugerman. read more

UCLA's Fall / Winter 2004 'Point of View' publication fetes its School of Theater, Film and Television in its 15th anniversary year. In its Honor Roll pages, it lists15-year cumulative major gifts between 1989 and 2004. Listed in the $100,000. to $499,999. cumulative contributor category are Clara and Rear Admiral George S. Morrison. Another category of contributors is the Archive Council 2003-2004, where donations support film preservation and cataloguing, public programming and scholarly access; Pearl and Columbus Courson are listed among the patrons. The Jim Morrison Film Award is listed among the endowments. The endowment funds (many donated prior to 1989) provide, in perpetuity, ongoing support for students, faculty, and academic and public service programs.

January 1, 2005 D21C at Anaheim House of Blues <> Jim Coke exhibition extended

The Doors of the 21st Century played an amazing show last night to a sold-out crowd at Anaheim's House of Blues. They took the stage at 11:00 and took their final bows at 1:20, after the final encore of Soul Kitchen with guest guitarist Waylon Krieger. The set list included surprises in the form of three new songs added to the set list which we haven't heard this band play before. D21C Webmaster has show photos uploaded here already. Photographer Jim Coke has been exhibiting his wonderful shots of The Doors from July 1967 at Devonshire Downs. The exhibit opened in Long Beach, California on December 4th and was to have closed last evening, but the exhibit has been extended through Saturday, January 15th. There will be a closing reception with music and poetry. more info
