July 27, 2005 audience recording of Boston late show

The Doors played two shows at Boston Arena in Boston, Massachusetts on April 10, 1970. Both of those performances were recorded for 'Absolutely Live'. A friend has advised me that an audience recording of the late show has recently found its way into circulation. Within the last few days, the recording was donated by the original taper on the audio archive website, www.dimeadozen.org

July 24, 2005 review of Calgary D21C show <> preview of Edmonton show with Ray

The Doors of the 21st Century may be known simply as D21C from now on, according to a review from Canoe! Jam on-line of last night's sold-out show at Calgary's Pengrowth Saddledome. The story also reports that, in response to the injunction issued the day before, the band indicated that they will now be known simply as D21C. read review

July 22, 2005 John won permanent injunction against The Doors of the 21st Century

John Densmore won a permanent injunction today that is intended to prevent Robby and Ray from touring as The Doors of the 21st Century, according to on-line news stories hitting cyberspace tonight. According to the Superior Court website, the decision on this matter was scheduled to occur next month on August 31st, so this is a surprise (to me). This news comes as Robby, Ray, Ian and the band are touring Canada headlining the Strange Days Festival. Is this the end, or will there be appeals? I don't know. Will The Doors of the 21st Century be allowed to fulfill the shows that are already contracted and on-sale? I don't know for certain, but I'd guess that probably, yes. I sure hope so. It appears that the band can continue to tour under a different moniker. I sure hope so. Stay tuned to see how this shakes out. read the injunction news story

July 20, 2005 D21C in Vegas on sale this Saturday

The Doors of the 21st Century will play a return performance at Sunset Amphitheater at the Sunset Station Hotel & Casino in Henderson (Las Vegas) on Friday, August 26th, it was announced earlier this week. Tickets for this performance go on sale this Saturday, July 23rd. more info

July 18, 2005 Pablo Manzarek news <> St. Louis set list added <> Noah Manzarek photos <> D21C will return to Vegas

Pablo Manzarek will release 'Listening Through A Window' in September 2005 through his new website, www.tripform.com This is TripForm's first release for electronic label RAD23. There is also a 'Through The Window remix' from DJ Paul Edge. More collaborations between Pablo and Paul Edge are planned for the remainder of 2005 and into 2006. read press release

Another set list has been contributed by a D21C fan who attended the April 24th St. Louis, MO show at the Roberts Orpheum Theater. It has been added to the 2005 Set Lists page. (thanks, Alex)

The Doors of the 21st Century will play a return performance at the Sunset Amphitheater at the Sunset Station Hotel & Casino in Henderson (Las Vegas), Nevada on Friday, August 26th, according to the D21C Tour Dates page. This is a terrific venue that D21C performed at last summer: outdoors, under the stars! There is no on-sale information available yet, so keep checking back.

July 17, 2005 Colorado College 1967 gig <> Temecula review & set list <> wanted: set lists <> Joe Shakarchi CD info <> set list for Oakdale in June

The Doors played Colorado College's homecoming dance on October 21, 1967. While this show is listed in Greg Shaw's excellent reference book, The Doors On The Road, there is no show information or back-story provided. In today's Colorado Springs Gazette, there is a remembrance about that show from some of the school alumni who were there. It's a cool read. go here

Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California was the locale of last Thursday's Doors of the 21st Century concert, and the first one I had been able to attend since New Years Eve at the Anaheim House of Blues. The show's set list can be found listed on the 2005 Set Lists page, and my write-up about the show can be read here.

Wanted: set lists! I slacked off on collecting set lists the first half of this year, and now I'm trying to catch up. If anyone has the set lists (complete and in order) for shows that are missing from my 2005 Set Lists page or even any of the earlier shows, please send them along. Thanks!

Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie told Blender Magazine that: "... she often dreams about having 'trippy' drug-fuelled sex with late rocker Jim Morrison. The Shut Up singer admits that out of all men, living and dead, Morrison intrigues her the most as a bed partner. "(I'd like to spend the night with) Jim Morrison. because I would probably want to do a lot of drugs and have real trippy drug sex. "He seems very creative in bed. I like that." The only comment I can add to that story is, GET IN LINE, girlie!!

John Densmore's official website at www.johndensmore.com is back live and on-line again after a false start last week. With the support and input from both John and The Doors management, we should be able to count on this being up-to-date on John's doings on a regular basis.

The Doors of the 21st Century played the posh Pechanga Resort & Casino Resort in Temecula, California last night. A write-up about the show will be done within a few days. The band performed one of their new songs, Eagle In A Whirlpool, which really rocked and sounded very Doors-like. In addition, there were all new merchandise offerings that I haven't seen before, including a denim jacket, at least 4 or 5 new tee-shirt designs (two of them feature Robby, Ray and Ian faces), underwear, halter tops, key rings, hats and posters. The band played a solid two hours to an audience that was mostly on its feet throughout. Check back for more details.

The Doors of the 21st Century recently announced two new shows in August, in Washington D.C. and in Chicago. It looks like Washington D.C. is now on sale (general admission), and the Chicago show goes on sale at 5:00 today (Chicago time). See above show listings for links to more info on these shows.

July 12, 2005 Doors song used on INXS show <> John collaboration with Joe Shakarchi

'People Are Strange' is one of the songs chosen for episode 2 of Rock Star: INXS which debuted earlier this week. Llast night, the song was performed by a female contestant named Daphna, and she got great feedback from the band members and Dave Navarro. (thanks, Lorie)

John Densmore played on Joe Shakarchi's CD Sunrise In The West, according to this news item about that artist's performance this evening in San Francisco: If Joe Shakarchi's CD Sunrise in the West sounds a bit like '50s-style beatnik poetry brushed with Jim Morrison, it's not surprising -- consider its pedigree. San Francisco poet Shakarchi teamed with former Doors drummer John Densmore, along with didgeridoo player and KPFA host Stephen Kent and Nepalese bamboo flutist Manose, to record the spoken-word disc on the Western Sunrise label, which weaves unplugged world-sound textures through Shakarchi's neo-Zen scene-setting. The milieu is typified by "Looking Like a Young Mother Teresa," who appears with A shawl thrown over her head/Bombay shirt and sash/walking down a Katmandu street/from Iowa by way of Arizona/on her way back to Calcutta. Shakarchi, Kent, and Manose waft into Maxwell's in downtown Oakland this evening (6-9 p.m., 341 13th St.) for a little Culture Shock Live. Admission is free for open-mic participants.

Oops ... now you see it, now you don't. If you were fast-fingered late last night or earlier this morning, you got to see the new official site, www.johndensmore.com while it was on-line. The site is off-line for just a quick revision or two, and then it'll be back on-line for good.

John Densmore will perform in a benefit concert next year in Albuquerque, New Mexico alongside his old friend, John Coinman. This news comes from an on-line story from Tucson regarding a local John Coinman appearance there tomorrow night. read it

Fan site www.johndensmore.com is back on-line after a brief absence, but with a big difference: it is no longer just a 'fan site' ... it is now the official website of John Densmore. Fans can count on this site being current and informative with John contributing updates and news about his many projects. Be sure to add it to your favorites and check it out often. Congratulations!

There's good news and there's bad news for D21C concert-going fans this summer, depending on where you live. According to the Tour Dates page, The Doors of the 21st Century have added two new shows in August, in Washington D.C. on August 9th and in Chicago on August 13th. These are D21C shows only, and not part of the Strange Days Festival tour. More info on these new dates will be added tomorrow. The bad news comes in the form of cancellations of shows scheduled at the Moondance Jam in Walker, Minnesota next Saturday, July 16th, as well as the Strange Days Festival show scheduled for July 26 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

July 3, 2005 memorabilia auction results

In mid-June I reported that ItsOnlyRockNRoll.com was running an on-line auction of some amazing celebrity memorabilia. There were 15 items specific to The Doors or to Jim Morrison. The auction ended on June 28th. The biggest ticket item was the stencilled road case that was said to be Jim's favorite pot-smoking seat, which sold for over $6,100. The results of all the Doors / Morrison items (only) including a listing of most of the opening bids, can be found copied & pasted to this link.

In observance of the 34th anniversary of Jim Morrison's death on July 3, there are many on-line news stories and remembrances popping up.
