August 31, 2004     attorney closing arguments continue

The trial of The Doors -vs- The Doors continued today with the attorney for the Morrison family, Mr. Forer, completing his closing arguments this morning.  After lunch, Mr. Briggs began his closing arguments on behalf of the defendants.     go here

August 30, 2004     back to court

The trial of The Doors -vs- The Doors is still not over.   I was back in the courtroom this morning to catch the closing arguments this week.   With input from friends who attended several days last week (thanks, Avery and Greg) and several others, I'm back on track trying to report on the conclusion to this sad story.   last week     this week

U.K.'s Mojo Magazine, September 2004 issue has a review of the re-release of Ray's 'Golden Scarab' CD.  (thanks, Fred) 

Blender Magazine, September 2004 issue (cover:  Usher) has an excerpt from the Stephen Davis book, "Jim Morrison:  Life, Death, Legend",  On page 174 is the story of the drunken encounter between Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison.   (thanks, Lorie)

August 27, 2004      D21C will play Pomona, CA and Jackpot, NV <> trial still isn't over

The trial of The Doors -vs- The Doors is not over yet.   I was told closing arguments may have begun this afternoon.   Testimony finished on Tuesday of this week, and the attorneys have been arguing the jury instructions for the next few days.   This means that the jury still has not received the case to begin their deliberation yet.

August 18, 2004    Summerfest set list added <> Tuesday's trial update later

The Doors of the 21st Century played Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on August 6th, and Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on August 7th.   Those show set lists have been added.  The set list is still being sought for the July 31st Summerfest in Grand Beach, Manitoba, Canada.  (thanks, Dave D)   2004 set lists

August 17, 2004    Celebrity Justice

Several people from Celebrity Justice were hanging around the courtroom yesterday.   The camera crew are not allowed inside the courtroom and I did not see them filming, but today's episode of Celebrity Justice on WGN does have a feature about the trial.   There is a statement from John via telephone,  footage of Ray and Dorothy outside the courthouse (but not talking to the CJ crew), and a few quotes from Monday's testimony.   (thanks, Jude)

Robby, John, and Ray were all in court again today, as well as the Morrison family.   Hopefully this trial will be turned over to the jurors by the end of the week.   read more

August 14, 2004    trial week #7 <> Peace Frog in 'Entourage'

Robby, John, and Ray - in that order - all gave testimony yesterday as the seventh week of this jury trial wrapped up.  read more

'Peace Frog' will be featured in HBO's new hit series, Entourage, airing August 26th, according to www.thedoors.com    The show follows a rising Hollywood star and his "crew" of hangers-on.   Actually, if this is the episode entitled "Busey and the Beach" it airs frequently beginning August 22nd.

John Densmore's Tribaljazz played a free show earlier this evening at the L.A. County Museum of Art in Hollywood.   read more

The Doors of the 21st Century show scheduled for September 26th at Ameristar Casino in Council Bluffs, Iowa, was confirmed to me by the band's manager.   more info

Friday the Thirteenth at the L. A. County Courthouse saw all three members of The Doors in the witness chair at some point during the day.   Today's court summary will be written up and posted tomorrow.

August 12, 2004    Ian to work with Unkle <> Jim cartoon in magazine <> big day in court

Ian Astbury will team up with British hip-hop band UNKLE to contribute a song to their upcoming second album, according to a story in online Filter Magazine.  read more

A Jim Morrison cartoon depicting him in the desert with an imaginary shamanic mystical spirit guide is on page 16 of the same Classic Rock magazine that features him on the cover (August 2004).   The cartoon is called "Get In The Ring", drawn by Pete Doree.

There was an amazing gathering in the courtroom today at the ongoing jury trial:  Ray, Robby, Ian, and D21C manager Tom Vitorino ... along with John & his wife Leslie, Rear Admiral & Mrs. Morrison,. Henry Diltz and Elliot Landry are presenting a joint exhibition of their photography to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Woodstock at Henry's  Morrison Hotel Gallery in NYC's Soho.  Admission is free and all photographs are for sale.   read press release

U.K.'s Classic Rock magazine with Jim Morrison on the cover (August 2004) has finally hit U.S. stores.  Beginning on page 68 is an 8-page excerpt from the Stephen Davis book, 'Jim Morrison:  Life, Death, Legend.' 

U.K.'s Mojo magazine, July 2004 issue (cover:  Red Hot Chili Peppers) has a feature story called "Hooray for HollyWeird' -- 100 Tracks That Built L.A."  On page 83:  THE END - The Doors:  1967  With the Watts riots a recent memory, and the Vietnam war never-ending, Lizard Jim and LA's favourite psychedelic band took audiences at the Whisky on Dionysian excursions through burning landscapes of drunken Oedipal desire.  Chaos and disorder?  In a crazy year, The Doors were without theatrical peer.   Find it:  The Doors (Elektra)

August 10, 2004    Light My Fire on NPR's most important list

August 8, 2004    John mentioned in LA Sunday Times story

John Densmore has been affiliated with the Rainforest Action Network for years, along with many other celebrities.   Today's LA Times Magazine section's cover story is about Randy Hayes, founder of that organization.   John's activism in this cause is mentioned numerous times in the story.  read it

August 6, 2004    Ian interviewed by Poptones <> Ramones DVD with Robby

Ian Astbury gave an interview to U.K.'s Poptones, in which he discussed The Cult, D21C, and the Oliver Stone movie, among other things. (thanks, JC)   read it

Robby Krieger performed with The Ramones at Hollywood Palladium in October 1992 for a performance of "Take It As It Comes."   A DVD called "Ramones Raw" is due out on September 28th and will include that performance.    read more

August 2, 2004     changes to official Doors site <> D21C site partially restored <> trial week six

www.thedoors.com has a new look on its new home page.   We were advised recently of forthcoming changes ... I'm not sure this is all of it, but it's certainly the start and indicates some new features.   You can sign up there for updates.

The trial has entered its sixth week .. the fifth week of testimony.  The plaintiffs' attorneys expect to finish presenting their case tomorrow, and then the defense team will present their case.   trial update
