December 21, 2004       Morrison Hotel slumlord lawsuit

Morrison Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, while a 'holy site' to Doors fans, is actually a rundown residence hotel in a slightly scary area of the city that has been undergoing major renovations and redevelopment.  This property at the corner of Hope and Pico Streets is a block from Staples Center and has often been identified in stories as a prime piece of property likely to be torn down for new development.   The Morrison Hotel is making news again, this time as the subject of a "slumlord" lawsuit filed by 40 residents of the property who claim they are subjected to rodents, cockroaches, no heating and air conditioning, bathrooms that don't work, leaks, and exposed wiring.   Earlier stories about the Morrison Hotel property are linked at the bottom of this story:   read more

December 8, 2004       remembering Jim

Jim Morrison would have been 61 years old today.   We'll never know what Jim's inspirations and beliefs would have been by the time he reached that age of maturity, but everyone visiting this website was profoundly affected by him as a young man.  A year ago I was in Paris along with many friends, visiting his burial place, sharing memories and enjoying The Doors of the 21st Century as they played at La Scene, which was not far from Pere LaChaise.  The following night the celebration in Paris continued with a huge sold-out show at Le Zenith.   It was a wonderful couple of days.  And while we're at it ... let's not forget to remember John Lennon today, too.
