April 17, 2005 Jim as 'Judas' <> new box set due <> nude photo of Jim & Pam <> Brisbane review <> new book on Morrison <> press about the FSU film

Jim Morrison is portrayed as 'Judas' in a quirky play entitled "Rockspell: The Gospel According to Rock" currently playing in Indianapolis at the American Cabaret Theater through May 15th. Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan are also involved in this play. I won't even try to explain it, just read the story for yourself. go here

The Doors Sampler Box will be an individually serial-numbered limited edition of 2,500 only, and should be out in a few months, according to a statement released by Doors Manager Jeff Jampol on the official Doors message board. That set will be entitled "Love / Death / Travel" which is an excerpt from a 1967 interview during the Strange Days album release, in which Jim was quoted as saying that "All of our songs are about love, death, and travel."

A nude photo of Jim and Pam from early 1967 has apparently surfaced, according to a series of posts on the Doors message board. The story as reported is that this was taken by a well-known Doors photographer who also lived next door, and has been hidden away all these years. 8 x 10 black and white prints in a signed and numbered limited edition are being sold for $2,500. each for the first ten pieces, and then the next ten will be sold for $3,500. each. Unsold photos may eventually be sold in a gallery setting.

According to the news page on the official website of The Doors at: http://www.thedoors.com/news/ : Top UK DJ Paul Edge is about to embark on a 2005 US Club tour, "Unlock The Doors," playing his electro-dance remixes of The Doors' classic tunes, along with some of the other Doors remixes now filtering into the mainstream. April 15, 2005 D21C play Antelope Valley, CA <> Jim film at FSU

The Doors of the 21st Century will play the Antelope Valley Fair on August 30, according to a story today in the Antelope Valley Press which announces the line-up of this season's shows at that annual event. General admission, festival seating tickets go on sale on Saturday, June 4th. Jim Morrison appeared in a brief promotional film for Florida State University in 1964, when he was just 21. The film emphasizes the need for more college-educated Floridians to work in the state’s rapidly expanding industries. Produced by Florida State University, the total run time of the clip is 1:16. April 14, 2005 D21C play Minnesota in July <> Mojo Magazine <> samples & remixes

The Doors of the 21st Century will play the Moondance Jam in Walker, Minnesota on Saturday, July 16th. Band manager Tom Vitorino released that information as part of a statement about the cancellation of three of the five midwest shows scheduled for later this month, citing serious issues with the promoter of those shows.

U.K.'s Mojo Magazine has a special limited issue out currently entitled Psychedelic! This is an overall terrific issue, but there are several Doors references contained within, as well. Under the "Timeline 1965" caption (May) is a reference to Robby and John forming a short-lived band called The Psychedelic Rangers, the first known instance of a rock group referring to itself as "psychedelic." There are numerous other references to The Doors throughout the issue. 'Strange Days' is named as one of the 40 greatest psychedelic albums of all time on page 125. There's even a photo of Jefferson Airplane onstage at the Matrix in San Francisco on page 33, which shows just how small and intimate that club was. (thanks, Fred)

April 13, 2005 D21C tour dates cancelled <> D21C opening act <> D21C into the studio <> another "Best Of" <> "X" DVD <> Elle Magazine <> Stephen Davis book in French

The Doors of the 21st Century announced last month that they would be playing five shows in the midwest later this month. In the D21C news section of www.robbykrieger.com today is posted a new announcement, that three of the five shows have been cancelled due to circumstances beyond the control of the band. Fargo, ND, Evansville, IN, and Des Moines, IA are the shows that are affected by this announcement.

Robert Mirabal, a contemporary Native American musician, was scheduled to open the D21C shows later this month. No information is available as to whether he will still be appearing with the band on what is now a 2-date tour later this month. Other news reported on the band site earlier this month, is that The Doors of the 21st Century have studio time booked in May and will be recording their new CD with producer Ken Scott. There are also plans in the works for a summer tour, starting in the south and heading up the east coast. The band may return to Canada in July. This is all tentative information that will first be posted on http://robbykrieger.com/doors/tour.htm when the dates are confirmed.

Another "Best Of" set is in the works, according to a post last week on the Doors message board. As reported by Doors Manager Jeff Jampol, this will be a 4-disc set, with the fourth disc a DVD that will include some of the remixes that have surfaced recently.

X: The Unheard Music from Image Entertainment is a chronicle of L.A.'s punk rock band, X, now available on DVD. Included is an interview with Ray Manzarek, who produced their early albums. Also included is a studio rendition of "Soul Kitchen" with Ray performing with the band.

The May 2005 issue of Elle Magazine (cover: Alicia Keys), features a fashion spread with Alicia in various outfits. The Stephen Davis book, "Jim Morrison - Life, Death, Legend" was released in French a few weeks ago. In June, the French will see "An Hour For Magic" that will include ten photos not included in the U.S. edition. about the book

April 11, 2005 Robby and Phil Chen in forthcoming DVD

Robby Krieger and Phil Chen were filmed earlier today in Hollywood as part of a DVD and audio release titled 'Order of Distinction' honoring legendary Jamaican guitarist Ernest Ranglin. Phil Chen is actually the Music Supervisor on the project and played bass in all the performances. I spent several hours at the filming and saw performances by Elliot Easton of The Cars, and vocalist Alana Davis, in addition to Robby's performance of a song called 'Straight Flush,' all with Phil on bass and Ernest Ranglin on guitar. The project is scheduled for release in September 2005. Some photos will be added tomorrow. press release
