August 30, 2003 Robby is a Great Guitarist! <> Red Rocks show news
Robby Krieger is #91 among the 100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time (huh? ... only 91? ) according to Rolling Stone issue #931 dated 9/18/03 (cover: Hendrix): #91 Robby Krieger of The Doors - "Krieger's strengths are flexibility and self-effacement. A broad stylist whose influences extend to country, flamenco and raga, he could also get as nasty as he needed to, but he understood that instrumental interplay was what mattered. Essential recording: "Peace Frog" Morrison Hotel (1970) The top five were: #5 Robert Johnson; #4 Eric Clapton; #3 B.B. King; #2 Duane Allman; #1 Jimi Hendrix
The Doors of the 21st Century played a rocking 10-song set at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado tonight. The D21C Webmaster posted a brief re-cap, saying that the band performed in pouring rain. Several other bands who were also on the bill looked on and saw what "rock & roll is all about." August 29, 2003 Ray is a grandfather <> more U.S. shows probably being added
Ray and Dorothy Manzarek became grandparents for the first time on August 7th. Their son Pablo and wife Sharmin gave birth to Noah on that date. Congratulations to the Manzarek family!
More U.S. show dates are likely to be added in October, according to http://robbykrieger.com/doors/doorsnews.htm Cities being discussed are Minneapolis, St. Louis, and Houston.

August 14, 2003 Ray's short story published <> full 'Blender' story <> Doors photog is a CA candidate
Ray Manzarek contributed to a collection of short stories compiled and edited by rock musician Greg Kihn. The book is called "Carved In Rock: Short Stories By Musicians" and also includes contributions by Ray Davies, Joan Jett, Steve Earle, Jim Carroll, Robyn Hitchcock, Richard Hell, and others. The book was released in April 2003 from Thunders Mouth Press, ISBN: 156025453X
Blender Magazine, September 2003 (cover: Thom Yorke) listed The Doors as #37 on their list of the 50 Worst Artists In Music History, as previously reported. You can read the entire segment which they feel justifies that blasphemy if you go here
Gary Leonard, an L.A.-based rock photographer whose subjects included The Doors, is among the current field of approximately 170 to 200 candidates for the upcoming California gubernatorial recall election.

The Doors were named among Blender Magazine's list of the 50 Worst Artists In Music History (fer crissakes!) at #37: "The Doors, which had some of the biggest hits of the '60s, including 'Light My Fire,' get whacked because Jim Morrison 'unfortunately inflicted his terminally adolescent views on the wider world ... such ill-advised subjects as Nietzsche, black magic and Native American folklore.
