June 30, 2005 D21C in Reno on-sale <> fan review of Jones Beach <> Ethan Russell photo exhibit

The Doors of the 21st Century play the Reno Hilton Outdoor Amphitheater on Saturday, August 27th, an 8,500 seat venue adjacent to the hotel. The venue now has on-sale information on their site. General on-sale date is July 9th, but Ticket Connection members can buy earlier. more info

Jim Morrison is one of the many subjects of never-before-exhibited images to be unveiled next month in a new show from photographer Ethan Russell's archives, entitled "BEING THERE 1967-2005." The show opens on July 11th at the San Francisco Art Exchange and runs through the end of August. There will be an artist's reception on July 16th. read two stories

June 25, 2005 Tracks magazine's opinion <> 'Ghostly Encounters' <> 'Morrison Hotel' lawsuit

Tracks Magazine April/May issue (cover: Lucinda Williams) has a listing of the Best and Worst Live Albums. It is the opinion of whoever compiled the list that Absolutely Live belongs on the Worst list, with these comments: By the time The Doors got around to making a live record, the '60s were petering out, and so was Jim Morrison, who had morphed from Lizard King to dissolute slob, making this a truly depressing listen. Nary a printed word about the guitarist, organist or drummer, or their contributions. Others who made this elite list were Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Lou Reed, and Rolling Stones, so at least they are in stellar company.

'Dead Famous: Ghostly Encounters' is an hour-long program on Biography channel. The July 5th episode focuses on Jim Morrison, with this description: "Hotel room in which singer Jim Morrison lived; Morrison's Los Angeles home; the Whaley house." Biography channel will air this show twice, at 7:00 p.m. and at 11:00 p.m. (west coast time).

The tenants of L.A.'s Morrison Hotel filed a slumlord lawsuit against the owners of that building back in December 2004. I have learned that September 6, 2006 is the date for the trial! That seems like a long way off, especially if there have been no improved conditions for those tenants. June 24, 2005 D21C to play Reno <> interview with Ray <> review of Gilford show <> Pat Travers interview

The Doors of the 21st Century will play the Reno Hilton in Reno, Nevada on Saturday, August 27th according to the D21C tour page. No other information is available, but my guess is that the show will probably be held in either the Reno Hilton Theater or the Reno Outdoor Amphitheater.

An interview with Ray Manzarek appears today in an on-line story from north Jersey's The Record. Later tonight, the band headlines the Strange Days Festival show at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey read it

'Inside The Doors A Critical Review 1967-1969' is a DVD title due out on July 26 from Classic Rock Legends, according to amazon.com's website. I presume this is not an 'official' release from The Doors because I hadn't heard about it previously, and especially because of the way the band's logo is altered. I learned ALOT about logos and branding while attending the trial last summer. (thanks, Allan)

Tom Vitorino, manager of The Doors of the 21st Century, was instrumental in getting all the original members of Vanilla Fudge back together again. Vanilla Fudge is opening up for D21C on the Strange Days Festival tour, currently underway. This story is in today's Asbury Park Press. read the story

June 18, 2005 fan poetry event in Paris <> booksigning in Paris

"A Tribute In Motion" is the name of a fan-organized tribute to Jim Morrison that will be held in Paris on Monday, July 4th. The program will feature readings of Jim's poetry, as well as original fan poetry. The event will be at Shakespeare and Company Bookshop, 37 rue de Bucherie, Paris. A tribute to the music of Jim Morrison and other celebrities buried in Pere Lachaise is part of a larger celebration this weekend in Boston at their Forest Hills Cemetery, which is being honored in the National Register of Historic Places. Jim Morrison's favorite seat to smoke pot on was apparently a stenciled road case used by The Doors. June 10, 2005 D21C a 'Jeopardy' question <> new photos of post-Jim Doors

The Doors of the 21st Century were the answer on a recent question on TV's popular 'Jeopardy' show. The question went something like: '"The rock group featuring Ian Astbury on vocals and Ray Manzarek on keyboards call themselves _______ of the 21st Century." (thanks, Steve C.)

Several rare shots that rock photographer Ed Roach took of The Doors performing live after Jim Morrison's death in 1971 have been re-discovered, according to a recent report from Moneyplans.net Archives. Roach-clips.com has been active in licensing material for use in television, print and online media, in addition to providing provocative, historic online content to the general public. read the whole story

June 9, 2005 Robby the golfer <> Courtney Love??

Robby Krieger participated in the annual Mark & Brian Celebrity Golf Tournament back on April 30th. This is the event's second year at Industry Hills, which has two courses being played at the same time. Robby played on the "Brian course" and from the results posted on the KLOS website, it looks like Robby and his four teammates tied with Carlos Mencia for first place on that course. Both teams finished with a score of 55, which was 18 under par 73. Way to go!

According to several on-line stories that appeared today: Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger have approached Courtney Love to front The Doors, says Rolling Stone magazine. Apparently they miss the days of working with a bloated, unpredictable, self-destructive singer. This has got to be a joke. Gadzooks -- please say it isn't so, fellas.

June 4, 2005 Hard Rock in Las Vegas

Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas has had some primo Doors memorabilia on display for as long as I can remember. There were handwritten lyrics for The Changeling framed and hung by the elevators. John's drum set, identical to the one used on VH1 Storytellers, was always positioned atop a bank of slot machines. I was there earlier this week and was totally discombobulated to discover that both of those items have been removed; they are undoubtedly in rotation at some Hard Rock Cafe elsewhere. In the meantime, the Doors-related items that remain include the huge 4-panel mural in Mr. Lucky's Cafe, a large print of Jim at Hollywood Bowl, and a print of all four in the Morrison Hotel window. Next door in the Hard Rock Cafe there is a large Joel Brodsky print of Jim, a frame with two copies of the Morrison Hotel album (the outside cover and the inside gatefold), and the July 25th Cow Palace poster with Lonnie Mack and Elvin Bishop. Related items on display at the Hard Rock Hotel included Billy Duffy's white Gibson guitar, signed by Billy and Ian Astbury; John Kay's leather jacket; and an exhibit honoring DJ Paul Oakenfold. And by the way, there is a print of Jim hanging in Room 531!

June 3, 2005 The Doors make a marketing move <> more bogus hype from Gerald Pitts

The current issue of BrandWeek has a feature story about The Doors opening its music catalog to marketers. I believe the band is even pictured on the cover. ~~I do not have the issue and cannot access the full story on-line, but there is an excerpt on their website.~~ The entire text was published on the Doors message board, so that has now been copied to this page. Jim Morrison Alive? On May 30th on the national talk show Coast To Coast, the guest during the first half-hour was Gerald Pitts, the clown who claims that Jim Morrison is alive and well and living as a cowboy in the Pacific Northwest. Pitts claims he first met him in 1997 when he showed up at a rodeo, and then later discovered he lived at a neighboring ranch raising horses. According to the summary on the station website at http://www.coasttocoastam.com/shows/2005/05/30.html Pitts said that Morrison told him there was a conspiracy to kill himself, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix, and that related to why he faked his death. Pitts was pushing his overpriced bogus video and website, as well. (thanks, David and Tom)

June 2, 2005 VH1 Classic Decades show confirmed <> John donating to benefit silent auction

The VH1 Classic Decades Rock Live story is now all over the internet, confirming the rumored collaboration with Perry Farrell reported last weekend. Perry Farrell is scheduled to perform 'Touch Me' and 'Crystal Ship.' The all-star line-up is said to include the original Vanilla Fudge, Pat Travers, Macy Gray, Antigone Rising, and the Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines.
