November 30, 2004     Ed Sullivan special

'Rock 'n' Roll Forever:  Ed Sullivan's Greatest Hits' is a 90-minute program from 1999 which features performances by Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Ray Charles, the Supremes, The Doors, Janis Joplin, and the Mamas and the Papas.   This is being broadcast in L.A. on December 11th on public stations.  Check local listings.

November 28, 2004     Jim Coke photo <> another mash-up version

Photographer Jim Coke opens an exhibit of his photography on December 4 at Viento y Agua Gallery in Long Beach, California.  "Mr. Mojo's Mandate" runs through December 31st.  The opening reception at 6:00 p.m. on December 4 will include both musical and spoken word performances.  The poster advertising the exhibit and featuring an unusual photo of Jim Morrison, has been added to the info page.   more info   (thanks, Jim)

November 27, 2004     Paul Ferrara projects <> Cult / Doors mash-up

Paul Ferrara is a name that is well-known to fans of The Doors.  He was a film student at UCLA along with Jim and Ray, and later became The Doors' photographer and cinematographer including the Hollywood Bowl show and Feast of Friends film, directed HWY, and co-wrote 'Waiting For The Sun.'  Paul is currently at work on an autobiography, so we have another authentic insider's story to look forward to.   Earlier this year he and his ex-wife released The Paul & Georgia Album, which features Ray, Robby, & John on two of the tracks.  Lots more interesting facts about Paul's band  involvement can be read on the same website where the CD can also be purchased:   www.cdbaby.com     With Paul's help, I'll keep you posted on the progress and release of his autobiography.   (thanks, Paul)

November 26, 2004     Cult / Doors mash-up <> Doors items at Christie's auction

'Sanctuary's Over' is the title of a new mash-up I heard today on L.A.'s Indie 103.1 FM station.  It's a blending of '(She Sells) Sanctuary' by The Cult and 'When The Music's Over' by The Doors, and it totally worked!   If anyone can find a link to this mash-up from Smash, please send it to me to share with others.  (thanks, David my son)

November 25, 2004     D21C news

The Doors of the 21st Century will begin recording tracks in early 2005 for their new album, according to the D21C news page at  http://robbykrieger.com/doors/doorsnews.htm      That site also reports that 2005 tour dates have not been finalized yet, and that there will probably be no announcements until after the new year.  Lastly, that site says that the reported appearance of Robby & Ray performing with Snoop Dogg on the upcoming Spike TV Video Game Awards on December 14th, is apparently not going to happen now.

November 24, 2004     Stephen Davis interview on radio & old Robby interview

Stephen Davis, author of "Jim Morrison - Life, Death, Legend" will be discussing his book along with lots of Doors music being played, between 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Boston's WZLX 100.7 on Thanksgiving night, November 25th.  By the way, a 2001 interview with Robby Krieger is archived on that site, during which he plays and sings Spanish Caravan before performing later that night at Harpers Ferry.   (thanks, Daphne)

Robby Krieger was interviewed on Sunday night on L.A.'s KLOS 95.5 while The Doors' first album was being played in its entirety on that station's "Seventh Day" program.

Two of Jim Morrison's privately published poetry books were up for auction on the Bonhams & Butterfields site November 21 & 22.  Lot 6789 was The Lords/Notes On Vision and was estimated to fetch between $3,000 to $5,000:  final price was $5,287.   Lot 6790 was The New Creatures, and was estimated to fetch between $1,000 to $2,000:  final price was $822.

Rolling Stone Magazine's latest issue (cover:  500 Greatest Songs of All Time) includes two songs by The Doors in that list.   The issue also includes "My Top Ten" by Ray Manzarek.    read it

November 21, 2004     Doors will join Snoop in TV performance

Snoop Dogg will emcee this year's 2nd Annual Video Game Awards, which will be broadcast live from Los Angeles on December 14.  Host Snoop Dogg will play "Riders on the Storm" -  the exclusive track from EA's Need for Speed Underground 2 - with the surviving members of The Doors.  Also  performing at the ceremony will be SUM 41 and Ludacris, according to http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/halflife2/news_6113356.html   (thanks, Dave)

Snoop Dogg's cover of Riders On The Storm on the 'Need For Speed Underground 2' got another write-up, this time in AllHipHop News.  read it

Ian Astbury should be credited for Lollapalooza instead of Perry Farrell, according to the 'Ask Blender' feature in the November 2004 issue of Blender Magazine (cover:  U2).   It says that Ian's 'Gathering of the Tribes' was the inspiration for Lollapalooza.   (thanks, Lorie)   read it

November 19, 2004     John on L.A. radio this morning <> Jim's poetry books up for auction

John Densmore was an in-studio guest on SoCal radio station KPFK 90.7 this morning on a show called Global Village With Sergio.   John was on the show to pay tribute to the late drummer Elvin Jones.  (thanks, David)

The Doors of the 21st Century played five shows in Mexico and South America in late October.   D21C Webmaster Artski has uploaded photos from those shows, which can be seen at these links:  Mexico City  --  Santiago  --  Buenos Aires  --  São Paulo  --  Rio de Janeiro

John Densmore and Reza Derakshani have a CD release entitled "The Ray of the Wine" set for release on November 1, according to an October 19th news release on www.HenHouseStudios.com.  I do not find it listed there yet for sale, but it must be coming soon.

Jim Morrison was among the improbable write-in candidates who received joke votes in Pennsylvania's 18th Congressional District in Tuesday's election, according to a story in Pittsburgh's Tribute-Review.   read it

November 4, 2004     Ray to do film score <> "On The Road" stories & photos <> fan review of Santiago show

Ray Manzarek has agreed to do the music score for a new movie script called ''Tooty's Corner'' -- a film penned by Chicago author Mike Maione and Ryan Wiskes.  The movie is about a group of South Side of Chicago guys growing up in the 1950s -- hanging out on a corner dubbed Tooty's.   Both Ray and Mike Maione were '50s graduates of St. Rita High School.   This is according to a story in today's Chicago Sun-Times on-line at:  http://www.suntimes.com/output/zwecker/cst-ftr-zp04.html

November 3, 2004     New Years Eve announcement <> future DVD of Buenos Aires show

The Doors of the 21st Century will play New Years Eve at the House of Blues in Anaheim, California.  Tickets go on sale on Saturday, November 13.   There will also be a pre-sale, but that date is not available yet.  more info

When The Doors of the 21st Century played to 30,000 fans last week in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the show was videotaped for future release.  The band's tour was a huge success in Mexico, Chile, Argentina and Brazil:  they played to over 70,000 fans during that 5-show tour.
