CLARA CLARKE MORRISON 1919-2005 obituary notices

Clara Clarke Morrison, 86, died peacefully after a long illness at 11:30 pm on December 29, 2005 with her husband Steve, daughter Anne, son Andy and grandson Dylan Graham at her side. Clara is also survived by her grandsons Sefton Graham and Ian Morrison, her granddaughter, Tristin Graham Dillon, as well as two great-grandchildren, Luke and Caroline (Cali) Dillon. She was preceded in death by son Jim in 1971.

Clara was feisty to the end: She recently called Dylan from her sick bed to gloat and take his money for the bet he lost to her on the Colts-Chargers game. Dylan said his grandmother was cracking up at his "Number One Team” getting beaten by her San Diego Chargers.

Her ashes will be scattered over the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego.

The Morrison family appreciates the outpouring of concern, however, please respect their privacy during this sad time of transition.

Mother of Jim Morrison Dies

Clara Morrison, the mother of the late Doors singer Jim Morrison, died at her home in Coronada, near San Diego in California on December 29. She was 85.

Mrs. Morrison was an active part of suing Doors members Ray Manzerek and Robbie Krieger when they toured as The Doors in recent years. The results went in the Morrison's favor and the former Doors members were forced to tour under the name The Doors of the 21st Century.

Her son Jim was born in Melbourne, Florida in 1943 and died of heart failure in a hotel room in Paris in 1971 at the age of 27.

Clara married Steve Morrison, a Navy ensign, in 1943 in Honolulu. They were married for 63 years. She was also mother to daughter Anne and son Andy. She had five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

MORRISON, CLARA 1919 to 2005

Clara was raised in the midwest and went to Pearl Harbor to help her sister with a new baby, and later to work for the Navy Public Relations office. It was there that she met Steve Morrison, a Navy ensign. She and Steve were in Pearl Harbor during the December 7th bombing and its aftermath. They married in 1943 in Honolulu. Together they had a rich and fulfilled life, traveling, entertaining, raising a family. Throughout Steve's distinguished 38 year career, Clara was his partner and his support, as the family continually move, lived in 34 houses, and traveled the globe, including stations in California, New Mexico, Virginia, London, and Guam. Steve and Clara raised three children. The eldest, Jim, became a singer, poet, and song writer, and died in 1971. Clara is survived by Steve, her loving husband of 63 years, her daughter Anne and youngest son Andy, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Clara was a fun, thoughtful, generous woman who touched the lives of those who knew her. She was well known as a strong-willed person who lived her life with conviction and directness, and she never looked back. But it was her kindness that friends, family, and acquaintances recount as they remember times with her. As per her wishes, a family memorial service is planned, and her ashes will be spread at sea.
