   The  Strange Days Festival

Ok, I was born and raised in NY not far from this theater; I may have inhabited the beaches but I have never been here! yah I know.   Its great, very natural.  It's right on the Bay so the sea breezes are wonderful.  This show went faster than the Charlotte show.   Adding Steppenwolf who I love, made everyone have to move faster through their sets.  So it was Pat Travers, Yardbirds, (very cool),  Vanilla Fudge (NY faves), and Steppenwolf one of my old favs!

Then in no time at all, D21C again, this time with the backdrops for each song.  If Ray and Robby seemed comfortable in Charlotte NC, they just about were at home here in NY.  This is the place to talk about making our earth a better place, and that is what Ray talked about.

The show was tight and they put out for sure!!!  Came out like gangbusters .  The band formally gets introduced.  They begin with .... Yes!!  Peace Frog, one of my favorite Doors songs.   So I'm stunned and amazed that they heard my prayer.   Then Break on Through, Not to Touch the Earth,  The Alabama Song (what a treat!), Back Door Man, Hunter, 5 to1,  Touch Me!! 

One encore,  Ray and Robby jokingly argue about what song: LA Woman or When the Music's over.  NY says LA Woman, then Roadhouse Blues, and of course, Light My Fire.  Can you feel the speed here!

Ian Astbury's voice is something to be reckoned with!   Again he is slithery, sexual, sensual.   Who else could belt out the songs on this set list.   I am so happy they chose him, he is pure heart and soul.   On this night in particular,  he is tight, the show is hard  and fast,  so much so, things are breaking.  Ian is the quintessential lead, he had mike stands breaking one after the other until he threw them, then he had a tambourine totally shatter during a song.   Makes you wonder how hard he was hitting his leg!  He tended to be a bit more quiet than at the other show. 

But as I said, they sounded great as usual with Ian singing as if possessed.  During the encore they are joined by Yardbirds and Pat Travers.   Now let me say, for those who think they go on stage at the end of the show for some reason I have not seen this .  At this venue if you have seats on the left near the beautiful bay, the bands move back and forth along the walkway to and from the stage.   We just about know Pat Travers band by now.  Even a Yardbird will sit down and start taking pictures, this to me is weird! 

I saw John Kay for first time at age 12.  He looked and sounded great, one of my fav bands.   So ok, you see the bands moving back and forth, I even got to say a heart felt sorry for Ty having my room key by accident.  He remembered and we laughed vowing next time to let the poor guy in.  I even saw Ray and Phil.   I did not see Robby, and need I say Ian didn't pass once.   I don't know much about him, but he seems to me to be very focused and centered.   Again, more personal traits for me to learn from.  

I can't wait for the show in Virginia!!!     See you there!
