In addition to being the official photographer for Woodstock and the Monterey Pop Festival, Diltz has shot more than 200 album covers and has documented such artists as The Doors; Jimi Hendrix; The Eagles; Eric Clapton; Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young; and Jerry Garcia. His famous photo of Paul and Linda McCartney was used on the cover of Life magazine, and his portraits have been in Newsweek, People, Rolling Stone, Billboard and countless other magazines. Diltz's work is also featured in several books including California Rock California Sound, Shooting Stars, and The Innocent Age. A television documentary about Diltz's work, Under the Covers, aired recently on National Public Television and The Learning Channel. His works can be found at http://www.morrisonhotel.us.

Elliott Landy began photographing the anti-Vietnam war movement and underground music culture in 1967. His classic images were chosen for the covers of Bob Dylan's Nashville Skyline album, Van Morrison's Moondance, and The Band's Music from Big Pink. He also published the photographic books Woodstock Vision-The Spirit of a Generation and Woodstock 69, The First Festival. His works can be found at http://www.landyvision.com.

Admission is free, and the photographs will be available for purchase.

    HENRY DILTZ

    BIOGRAPHY

It must be that down-to-earth grin and frequent laugh that puts his subjects at ease, making them oblivious to the constant click of the shutter. Or perhaps it's his background that disarms people: Born in Kansas City, Missouri, his childhood was spent traveling overseas with his stepfather, a State Department film producer, where he learned to coexist in a variety of cultures. A founding member of the Modern Folk Quartet, Diltz is as much at home as a musician on tour as he is as visual historian of the last four decades of popular music.

For Diltz, the pictures began at age 27 with a Pony, a defective $20 second-hand Japanese camera purchased on tour with the MFQ. When MFQ disbanded, he embarked on his photographic career with an album cover for The Lovin' Spoonful. Diltz easily submerged himself in the world of music: the road, the gigs, the humor, the social consciousness, the psychedelia, the up and down times.

Rather than running with the paparazzi wolf pack to bag the ultimate celebrity photo, Diltz amiably fits in with his subjects, who are often cronies and colleagues. His low-key photographic style has landed his shots in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, People, Rolling Stone, and Billboard. His Life magazine cover photo of Paul and Linda McCartney captured the couple at ease in Malibu. He was also the official photographer for all the Woodstock festivals.

Using environments to enhance his portraits, Diltz often works with art director Gary Burden. The classic Crosby, Stills and Nash debut album photo -- not glam, but down home -- captured the tone of 1969: three talented guys relaxing on a funky couch on the porch of an old clapboard house. Diltz and Burden have created more than 100 album covers for such stellar artists as Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Doors, The Eagles, James Taylor, and Mama Cass Elliott. He has also photographed such greats as Paul McCartney, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, The Rolling Stones, and Joni Mitchell.

Diltz still heads where the images are, using natural light, candid situations, and new technology to produce ever-current images of the music that shapes our sensibilities. As a partner in Triptych Pictures with art director Burden and producer Peter Blachley, Diltz released the critically acclaimed documentary Under the Covers as a DVD, CD-ROM, video, and PBS national television special. The program includes Diltz's famous photographs, previously unreleased footage, and current interviews with the icons of rock.

In June 2002, Diltz and partners Peter Blachley and Richard Horowitz opened a photography gallery in Soho in New York City at 124 Prince Street (212/941-8770). The Morrison Hotel Gallery features Diltz's best-known photographs.

    ELLIOTT LANDY

    BIOGRAPHY

Best known for his classic rock photographs, Elliott Landy was one of the first "music photographers" to be recognized as an artist. His celebrated works include photography of the Woodstock Festival; album covers for Bob Dylan (Nashville Skyline), The Band (Music from Big Pink, and The Band), Janis Joplin (Big Brother & The Holding Company: Cheap Thrills), Van Morrison (Moondance); and photos of Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, plus many others. Also a photo journalist, his early images documented and supported the rising tide of anti-war sentiment and spiritual awakening throughout the United States during the late 1960s.

He quickly moved on to another type of photography while traveling with his family for seven years through Europe in a 40-passenger bus. His loving photographs of his children and the family journey were published as multi- page stories in major magazines all over Europe.

The ideals of both personal and social freedom and the spirituality expressed by the Woodstock Generation are reflected in his later work with flowers (combining elements of impressionist painting with photography) and in the spiritual and artistic depth of his photo verite series which tenderly captures the personal relationship between himself, a former lover, and her child.

His photographs have been published worldwide in magazines, books, calendars, and cards for more than 35 years.
