Pacific, when
Mike Grant will debut his newest weekly music show,
called Canyon of Dreams (music from
California), inspired by Harvey Kubernik's book,
Canyon of Dreams:
The Magic and the Music of Laurel Canyon.
The first hour will feature music by artists that
lived in
Laurel Canyon, including
Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Carole
King, John Mayall,
The Mamas and the Papas,
Jackson Browne,
The Byrds,
The
Eagles and many others, plus many of their
friends. The second segment will be a
California-themed hour with a new theme chosen each
week, such as "California
My Way," "Pacific Coast Highway," "Music From
East L.A.," "Where
The
Action Is" and "California Christmas." The
station is locally broadcast from
Biggleswade in Bedfordshire, England and
simultaneously streamed live over the internet.
This week, Mike will present "California My Way"
in the second hour of his two-hour time slot as
host on the station. In this segment, every song
played will include California in the title. An
Al Jardine track is already included,
plus two more songs with the
Beach Boys that Alan wrote. Grant intends
to open the show each week with a different
version of "California
Dreamin'," but much of what he plays will
be songs you don't hear on-air in the U.K.
Mike Grant also produces the second and third hours of the show that follows his, which is called The Jukebox Drive-In.
"In the third hour of The Jukebox Drive-In
(the feature hour), I have put together a theme of
'The Elements'," Grant explains. "Part 1, the Water
section, will include 'Don't
Go Near the Water' and 'Pacific
Ocean Blues.' I'll use 'Cool, Cool Water' in
a future show. So
Al Jardine songs will be getting a good run
tomorrow. There will be some
Brian Wilson also in my show. Next week my
second hour will be called 'Pacific Coast Highway,'
a wonderful soundtrack for an imaginary drive up
Highway 101. That will include Alan's 'Drivin'.'"
Altogether five hours of interesting and mainly
great music planned for tomorrow (Sunday evening
U.K. time, Sunday morning in the U.S.).
Just in case this is getting confusing, the schedules are as follows: Sunday, 9 AM-11 AM PST (12 noon-2 PM EST and 5-7 PM in the U.K.) Canyon of Dreams (in two 1-hour segments, hosted by Mike Grant) Sunday, 11 AM-2 PM PST (2 PM-5 PM EST and 7-10 PM in the U.K.) The Jukebox Drive-In (in three 1-hour segments, hosted by Robbie Owen) |
