Proposed library park names include Jim Morrison, Pearl White

Grass Roots Venice Neighborhood Council stakeholders will be asked to name a new park after one of three Venetians.

The park is being developed by the City of Los Angeles adjacent to the Venice-Abbot Kinney Memorial Library, 601 S. Venice Blvd., Venice.

Proposed for the naming are:

Jim Morrison, of the rock group The Doors;

Pearl White, a longtime Venice community activist who died recently; and

Sonny Zorro, a Venice street performer who is credited with writing the song, Purple Haze, for Jimi Hendrix.

Another proposal is to name the park after the Gabrielino/-Tongva Native American tribe.

The naming issue will be on the agenda at the council's town hall meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, February 26th, at the Venice United Methodist Church community building, 2210 Lincoln Blvd., Venice.

The meeting will include confirmation of six board appointees and other matters.
