I haven't read this book myself, but it has been highly recommended to me, with the insight that the style it's written in is very accessible and humorous.

It has lots of great stories and anecdotes about Jim and The Doors, as well as other bands that played the Whisky a-Go-Go such as Janis Joplin, The Mothers of Invention, Van Halen, Guns n' Roses, and The Byrds.
