'Doors' legend may help soccer club

Soccer fans in the mountain town of Sogndal will get a bit more than they bargained for when they show up for a match at the local stadium Sunday.  Spraypaintings of Jim Morrison, the late lead singer for "The Doors," now adorn the whole place.
 

Custodians discovered the portraits, around 100 of them, when they came to work late last week. Someone spray-painted Morrison's head all over the stadium and an adjoining sports hall.

Morrison died under mysterious circumstances in Paris more than 30 years ago, but his fans clearly are keen on keeping his memory alive. Stadium officials plan to remove some of the portraits, but doubt they'll manage to get the stadium cleaned up by the weekend.

It remains unclear whether the unusual portraits will help light the fire of local team Sogndal when it meets rival Odd Grenland of Skien on Sunday. Officials are reporting the spray-painting to the police, but opt to take the situation with a sense of humor.

"Now at least folks can come to the match and see Jim Morrison and Sogndal beat Odd," stadium boss Yngve Hallen told local newspaper Sogn Avis.
