NEW HAVEN ARENA show - December 9, 1967

NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT

Below is a postcard circa 1950 that shows the New Haven Arena, where Jim Morrison got busted onstage.

The Arena is long gone, but in the postcard pictured, it is the building on the right.   The sign on the side that says ARENA is barely visible.

The postcard was apparently up for grabs on eBay.    Fellow fan & friend Chris Reese shared this picture with me, after he was tipped off to the auction by his friend, Kevin.

The story goes that Jim and a female companion were discovered backstage prior to the show.   The officer did not realize who it was he found, and after an exchange of words, the officer Maced Jim's face.

The band took to the stage as planned.   Midway through the performance, Jim began to relate the story of the backstage incident.   Long story short (because everyone already knows the story):   Jim was famously arrested onstage and hauled off to the local precinct where he was charged with with a lewd and obscene performance, breach of peace, and resisting arrest.
