It runs till Dec. 12 and again from Dec. 19-27 at the Art Space Gallery in Aoyama. Works on show include images captured by Henry Diltz, Jim Marshall, Bob Gruen, Paul Saltzman and Elliott Landy, photographers who, collectively, have documented the golden era of rock 'n' roll in the 1960s and 1970s and continue to be active today.

Henry Ditz and Jim Marshall both captured images of Woodstock and The Monterey Pop Festival; Paul Saltzman photographed The Beatles at the Maharishi's ashram in Rishikesh in 1968 where they went to escape the pressures of being in the most famous pop band on the planet; Bob Gruen took photos of a Beatle in a different era. He became John Lennon and Yoko Ono's personal photographer in 1971, taking the ubiquitous image of Lennon in sunglasses wearing a NYC T-shirt. His book, "John Lennon The New York Years" has recently been published. Gruen also toured with many punk and new wave bands of the late 1970s, including The Sex Pistols, New York Dolls and Johnny Thunders.

There will be more than 70 photographs on display, many for the first time ever in Japan.

"Legendary Rock & Roll Photographers" runs till Dec. 12 and then Dec. 19-27 at Art Space Gallery, Kita-Aoyama, 3-5-33 Minato Ward, Tokyo (tel. [03] 3408-1436). Opening times are 11 a.m.-7 p.m. (Dec. 12 and 27 until 4 p.m.). Admission is free.
