BBC TWO'S MASTERMIND GRAND FINAL 2003

Questions posed to the finalist contestant Darren Martin on his "Specialist Subject" of  Jim Morrison

 

Bear in mind that the contestant has 2 minutes to answer as many questions as they can on their specialist subject whilst sitting across from the quizmaster in a very daunting very famous leather chair. It is poorly lit so that the audience cannot interfere with concentration and the contestant must not answer until the question is completed and the quizmaster will confirm that the answer is correct or not and if not he will give the correct answer…which eats up time if you get one wrong…a contestant is allowed to ‘pass’ on a question but these passes count against them if a tie is the result of the show!

 

The questions are formed in a way that does promote tension and are designed to give contestants a chance to answer an average of somewhere around 15 questions in 2 minutes….anything over that is pretty good going. Finalists usually do very well as by that time are used to the format and the tension…although the Final of this quiz show is always very intimidating….

A very loud sonic buzzer signals the end of 2 minutes and if a question has been started the contestant is allowed to hear the completed question and answer it…

 

Darren answered all 17 of his questions correctly but froze a bit on the General Knowledge section.

 

When looking at the questions which I have reproduced pretty much as they were asked its best to remember that its no good pointing out the inaccuracies of any of the questions as you have to think really fast during your 2 minutes.    It’s easy when you have the cold light of day to answer the questions but when you are sitting in that leather chair its pretty unsettling…...
