Robby Krieger and his Jazz Band played an almost two-hour, 12-song set last night at Anthology in San Diego. The band actually took to the stage ahead of the 8:00 show time, at 7:40 p.m. This 3-level club looked full; for sure, the ground floor level was filled. Anthology has a terrific sound system along with a great quality large screen behind the stage which afforded overhead views of the drummer and the keyboards, as well as everyone else who were more readily visible.
On stage with Robby were Arthur Barrow (bass), Tommy Mars (keyboards), Tom Brechtlein (drums), and Chuck Manning on brass. Chuck was taking the place of Larry Klimas, who is off on tour with Neil Diamond for the next seven weeks. Also on stage was artist Norton Wisdom, who has provided visual entertainment behind Robby and his jazz musician friends for several years. Check out his website at: http://www.nortonwisdom.com/Flash/galleryNew.html. It's fascinating to watch that guy create his art! Singer Evan Marshall joined the band for the last two songs of the evening, which were crowd-pleasing Doors classics.
The set list went like this:
Chunga's Revenge
Let It Slide
Snake Oil
House of Bees
Event Horizon (with flamenco intro)
Russian Caravan
Southern Cross
You're Lost Little Girl
Lost On Mars
Trane Running Late
Under Waterfall
Touch Me (with Evan Marshall on vocals)
encore:
Roadhouse Blues (with Evan Marshall on vocals)
Patient fans who lingered after the show for about 15 minutes were rewarded when Robby returned to the stage area. He signed CDs of 'Singularity' which were for sale after the show, and posed for pictures and chatted with fans.
